#1 WHY EGG SHAPED ENCLOSURE?

Shape of the enclosure has a vital role in the performance of the loudspeaker. Moving of speakers causes sound waves with very complex mixture in terms of frequency, amplitude, phase etc. If the shape is rectangular with parallel walls at certain frequencies two bad things may happen: the wall will start to vibrate due to interference and they will act as additional speakers, but without control. So the general sound will be unpredictable mix of the sound caused of the speakers and box’ walls. Second: standing waves will occur inside the cabinet which will raise enormously certain frequencies and will defeat other. So, why most of the loudspeakers have a shape like kitchen cabinets? Because it’s easy and cheap to do and many loudspeakers manufacturers do not manufacture the enclosures indeed but over source them to cabinets manufacturers. We went to the difficult way: we chose a shape which prevents both a.m. phenomenon. This shape is oval.

#2 WHY ALUMINIUM?

Because of the complex design of the enclosure, the best manufacturing method is casting. The enclosure has primary function: avoid problems with interference and resonance and secondary: to be easy for processing. Most common materials for casting are many types of plastics. They do not have so good acoustical specifications and they are made of petroleum. We decided to use aluminium alloy like the aircraft one, because it has very good acoustical possibilities, it’s easy to be finished and it is not petroleum based.

# 3 WHY HANGED UNDER THE CEILING?

We designed Sputnik 12S to deliver massive bass without to be necessary to stand on the floor. Do you like cables on the floor?

#4 IS THE ENCLOSURE REALLY BULLETPROOF?

We never tried, non of us is armed. Anyway the aircraft aluminium cast with 10 mm thickness of the walls is really massive and robust thing.
